The old center of Mijas on the Costa del Sol makes you forget that this popular town has grown explosively in recent decades by embracing the tourist industry. Located on the slopes of the Sierra de Mijas, this part of the town still breathes tradition. The charm of the past is noticeable everywhere. The whitewashed, winding streets and flower-filled courtyards invite you to relax. And that's exactly what I've done.
But you can't help but admire the centuries-old glory of the church built by the Muslims in 836, which gained its current function in 1510. Several other churches, remnants of the old city walls, a small bullring (no longer in use), and the higher chapel of Calvary all make Mijas truly special. I'm still enjoying myself on one of the many terraces. Cheers!
Greetings, Jolanda.
