Cycling along beautiful waters

The less warm months on the costas are ideally suited to go out by bike. The region offers a variety of interesting routes that are not too difficult. Beautiful views, plenty of nice 'coffee stops' and good roads are of course a bonus. For all these reasons, this time we highlight a tour along beautiful waters and quiet roads.

The tour starts in La Mata where we will follow the coastal road along the beaches of Torrevieja. The Mediterranean Sea remains our travel companion at a short distance for a few kilometers. On the south side of the city we say goodbye to the sea and turn towards Los Balcones. To our right we take a first look at the large salt lake of Torrevieja. This unique and beautiful water landscape once again passes our eyes at the end of the cycle tour.

Paddling through Los Balcones we come to the CV-95, which takes us to San Miguel. On our route we ignore this town. But some will want to make a first coffee stop in one of the many bars. Back on the pedals, just outside San Miguel is the exit to Torremendo. Through a rural area with beautiful views we cycle to the Embalse de la Pedrera. We follow the contours of this azure blue reservoir for quite some time. Here you can fully enjoy the natural panorama.

The road around the lake ends near Vistabella Golf. As cyclists we turn left towards Los Montesinos. Especially if you have not paused in Torremendo for a tapa and a drink, the village of Los Montesinos can be a great last stopover. At the end of the village we turn right to the final destination Torrevieja. And again the water demands attention. This time we follow the north side of the salt lake of Torrevieja. For a short distance, however, we also have the salt lake of La Mata in our sights, before returning to the starting point.

This route is 67 kilometers long. The highest point is 407 meters. Although the distance may scare some people, it is good to know that nowadays several companies in the region rent out E-bikes in addition to 'normal' bicycles. The batteries on these bicycles make it a lot easier to cover longer distances. Many batteries have a range of 150 kilometers or more. That is more than enough for this cycling tour along beautiful waters.
