Strolling through one of the many weekly markets in the region is and remains a popular pastime. But visitor numbers only really swell during the large-scale Sunday markets.
Two of the area's largest markets are held that day. The Zoco market near Quesada and the Lemon Tree market near Guardamar are big crowd pullers, because both have an enormously varied offer. Moreover, those markets have more opportunities to take a break now and then and to eat or drink something on a terrace. Also on Sundays, the El Fogon flea market is held in Guardamar along the N-332.
The Lemon Tree market is located in the campo at Guardamar. On the road from Quesada to Guardamar, the visitor is led via a well-signposted turn to the right along a narrow road to the market. Although there are many parking spaces, it can sometimes take a while to find a spot. This market is divided into three areas, each of which has its own character. The range is enormous: from furniture to lots of fruit and vegetables and from jewelry and handbags to a toy stable and a 'hairdresser's shop'. The market is especially popular for its many international food and beverage outlets and terraces. If you want to walk around here for a longer period of time, you can enjoy both a hearty breakfast and a tasty lunch from a series of 'cuisines'. Without wanting to do short for other stable owners, the fresh paella, roasted chickens and chocolate churros seem to be particularly successful. The market is open from 8:30 am to 2:00 pm.
The Zoco market at Quesada, opposite the Lo Crispin neighborhood, is the youngest of the three Sunday markets and is the most wheelchair-friendly. This market is also very varied. There are stalls specialized in clothing, glass curtains, bags, kitchen gadgets, shoes, hand-knitted South American sweaters and various evidences of manual labor. Of course there is also a lot of fruit and vegetables. You can even contact a future predictor here. As on the Lemon Tree market, there is also enough supply for the inner person. Many of the terraces are situated in shady surroundings.
And, drum roll, especially for the Dutch taste buds, there is a café that serves fries and fricandelles. The market is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The El Pogon flea market directly along the N 332 near Guardamar evokes rather mixed reactions from visitors. Some market goers emphasize that describing the market becomes messy. For them, El Pogon is little more than a collection of items that have been 'rescued' straight from the trash can. But as always there is no arguing about taste. The more avid visitors find the offer, which changes rapidly from week to week, appealing and see the charm of the furniture, old appliances and clocks and decorative antiques that can be found there. The market is open from 7:30 am to 1:30 pm.
For all three markets, it makes sense to realize that parking can sometimes be a bit difficult. Also view the overview of the regular weekly markets in the region.
