The Mediterranean is a good destination for diving enthusiasts for a number of reasons. Due to its sheltered position and a negligible tidal range of less than 30 centimeters, the Med offers relatively calm water. That certainly makes it a comfortable environment for less experienced divers to practice their hobby. The average visibility of 10 to 18 meters and temperatures between 15 and 29 degrees also contribute to the favorable conditions.

Those who want to learn to dive or already have experience, can go to the diving center Scubaworld in La Florida to explore the wonderful underwater world of the Mediterranean Sea. The PADI-certified company has Dutch and English-speaking instructors. They provide courses and guidance throughout the year for diving enthusiasts of all levels: from beginners to advanced, from refresher courses to courses to become an instructor and from lessons for children to rescue dives.

For the youngest divers, Scubaworld uses three pools (2 in La Florida and 1 in Playa Flamenca) to learn the basics. The diving area that covers the center runs from Torrevieja and the Orihuela Costa to Cartagena in the province of Murcia. Occasionally diving trips to other locations or even diving holidays to tropical locations and night dives are also organized.

A popular place for diving is Cabo de Palo and the marine reserve Islas Hormigas near Cartagena. The multitude of reefs, ridges and rock formations provide ideal living conditions for octopuses, barracudas, sea turtles, eels, scorpion fish, groupers over a meter long and a multitude of smaller, colorful fish. In this area, experienced divers can also descend to one of the many shipwrecks.

Those interested need a medical certificate and insurance to be allowed to dive. Both can be obtained with the help of Scuba World.
