In case you plan to make paella for a larger group of people, we have a fun recipe here. These are the ingredients: 6,000 kilos of rice, 5,500 kilos of vegetables, 12,500 kilos of meat (chicken, rabbit, and duck), 1,100 liters of olive oil, 195 kilos of salt, 28 kilos of spices, 1 kilo of saffron, and 15,000 liters of water. This is enough for 110,000 servings. Enjoy your meal. One more piece of advice: if you have any leftovers, feel free to freeze them. It may all sound like a bit too much, but this was the recipe for the world's largest paella ever made. This culinary world record was set in 2001 in Madrid. A new record attempt in 2015 in Algeria ended in a fiasco because the fire under the pan was mishandled. Instead of a lot of diners, the cooks got a visit from the fire brigade to contain a blaze. The successful record attempt in Madrid involved quite a lot. A pan with a diameter of 21.5 meters had to be welded together on-site. Then it took hours to polish the material and then thoroughly remove rust and dirt. Above the pan, a structure was placed with the help of a crane, from which cooks constantly stirred the food with large shovels. Around the pan, a team of 80 cooks was continuously working to mix the food mass well. It eventually took four hours of cooking before the 110,000 people could enjoy their paella. The man behind this feat was Antonio Galbis from Valencia. He also held the previous record from 1992 with a giant paella good for 100,000 servings. His love for mega paellas also led him to start his company, Galbis Paellas Gigantes. As the first of its kind, he toured the world with his enormous creations, visiting many countries in South America as well as London, Munich, and Miami.
