Dehesa de Campoamor is the name of an urbanization, marina and sandy beach, located on the Costa Blanca in Orihuela Costa, a sub-municipality of the city of Orihuela in the province of Alicante in the autonomous region of Valencia. Dehesa de Campoamor is located on the east coast of Spain, about 13 kilometers south of the port city of Torrevieja. In 2010 Dehesa De Campoamor had 868 inhabitants and Lomas de Campoamor 265 inhabitants. In total, these two urbanisations had 1133 inhabitants (source: INE 2010).
Dehesa de Campoamor literally means "pasture of Campoamor". Dehesa is the Spanish word for pasture. Campoamor refers to the Spanish writer and poet Ramón De Campoamor, former governor of the province of Alicante. In 1854 he bought the area Dehesa de Matomoros, the name of which he changed to Dehesa de Campoamor. Dehesa de Campoamor is often referred to simply as Campoamor.
The white sandy beach of Campoamor is part of a series of six beaches of the district of Orihuela Costa. To the north it is adjacent to Cabo Roig beach, to the south to Mil Palmeras beach. Campoamor beach is 20 meters wide and 650 meters long. It has a first aid post, a lifeguard tower, wooden decks and a special access for the disabled. In addition, there is also a hotel and a restaurant right on the beach.
The Campoampor marina blends in beautifully with the natural landscape. There are 348 berths. In addition, the marina has many facilities, including a dry dock and a 10-ton crane, a hotel, a restaurant, a bar and a water sports school offering sailing and windsurfing.
Dehesa de Campoamor has a pleasant Mediterranean climate with an average annual temperature of 20 ° C and about 300 days of sunshine a year.
The air in this region is very clean, partly due to the presence of large salt lakes (salinas) and the absence of heavy industry in the area. This makes the region very popular with seniors and the chronically ill. The environment is said to promote health by the relatively high concentrations of iodine in the air from the salt lakes. As a result, the region has several clinics for rheumatism, cardiovascular diseases and skin diseases.
Walking and cycling are particularly popular in the area, partly due to the presence of many cycling and walking paths in the Parque Natural de la Sierra Escalona. This nature park is characterized by strikingly large pine trees.
